• As a pavement-focused public art and consulting studio, we exist at the intersection of climate, transportation, and design. This art takes shape in the form of painted murals, creative shade structures, temporary sidewalk stickers, chalk art, and innovative mosaics.

We pursue any art medium that encourages exploration and impact of the ground beneath our feet. We support the creation of cities where the ground supports people to be more connected, inspired and safe every day.

  • Too often throughout American history, roads have been constructed with the intention to divide, oppress and destroy. Creating art on top of these surfaces is a chance to create and imagine better futures. Roads and sidewalks can be designed while prioritizing local community needs, considering for fragile ecosystems, and centering accessibility.

  • Working at the forefront of a blossoming field, we are met daily with questions that don’t yet have answers. These questions are what push us to be in rooms with city planners, researchers, and other labor workers. Working on the ground gives us a unique perspective that is valuable to the future of progressive infrastructure and city design.

  • We need to adapt to a rapidly changing environment, which often means coming prepared with backup plans and rain dates. Nothing is forever, and everything moves in cycles.

  • Most of today’s infrastructure was not created with safety of marginalized people in mind. We’re committed to breaking the mold of what traditional work environments look like, encouraging the leadership of women and non-binary people both on the ground and behind the scenes.

  • Since 2020, we’ve trained over three dozen artists in the skills needed for ground murals. We regularly welcome guest designers and collaborators where we can, de-centering ourselves and uplifting the practice of community members. This practice is vital for the prolonged success of our projects.

  • We believe in sharing resources that will assist others in the creation of pavement artwork. When everyone’s murals are produced with structural integrity and thoughtful design, entire cities win. Check out our resources tab!
